"The people of Freeport should not have to pay for redundant positions. Instead, we must hold our elected officials and city staff accountable for fulfilling the responsibilities they were elected or hired to perform."
I share a deep concern about the current administration’s approach to executive staffing and management in Freeport. Our city elects a Mayor, and due to ongoing issues with trust and transparency, we’ve also chosen to hire a City Manager. Now, the administration is spending even more of our tax dollars on a lobbying firm to handle responsibilities they seem either unable or unwilling to fulfill. The Mayor of Freeport should be out there building relationships, representing, and lobbying for the people—not outsourcing those duties.
Instead of hiring a dedicated Public Works Director, they’ve outsourced this critical role to Fehr Graham. Despite having both an elected City Clerk and a Deputy Clerk, the administration now seeks to bring in a part-time clerk. This ongoing pattern of hiring external help and creating new positions raises serious concerns about their priorities, capabilities, and budget management.
It’s clear that more of our tax dollars are being funneled into external firms and additional roles because key positions either remain unfilled or underperform. This is more than just a financial issue—it's about effective governance and ensuring that our city's leaders and staff are fully committed to their responsibilities.
As your mayoral candidate, I am dedicated to fostering a more efficient and accountable approach to staffing. I will only consider adding positions or turning to outside agencies to complement my administration—not to compensate for it. It’s time to address these gaps, manage our city effectively, and spend our tax dollars wisely.
Your support is crucial as we work together to build a more responsible and responsive administration for Freeport. Let’s create a city we can trust—together.
